La la la la, la la la la, Elmo’s Song

This is a public service announcement for any iPad owners out there. It’s probably not a good idea to show your 2-year-old that there are Elmo videos in iTunes and on YouTube. Nothing against Elmo or Muppets, in general. Carter has Elmo pajamas, an Elmo first doctor kit, toy Elmo hands that play the “tickle dance,” and Elmo on his diapers. I grew up with Elmo. Elmo is A-OK in my book.

But, now that he knows Elmo lives inside Daddy’s iPad, we’re treated to a new sing-song every time he sees it: “Eeelllmooo! Eeelllmooo!” He’ll even bring you the iPad and state, quite forcefully, “Elmo!” Tonight, he found a couple of VHS tapes starring Elmo. It took us a while to find a working VCR (do they still make those?) but success was had. Well, at least he doesn’t call him “Melmo” anymore.

Historical note: VHS tapes are large plastic bricks with a loop of tape that you would slide into a drawer into a machine under the TV to watch movies. I know, barbaric right?

  1. We have an avid Elmo fan here too. Kamy calls him Mo-mo though. Elmo is the only thing that can be played on our DVD player in the van or it can get ugly. Sometimes I hear Elmo so much during the day that I’m afraid I’ll have nightmares!!!

  2. Such fun huh? At our house this week it’s Cow One (a Baby Einstein dvd with farm animals). Not sure how Cow One came to be, but we have it! And Carter will be happy to know that tonight Josh was biting one of his toys in the bathtub and he looked at me with the most serious look and said “no bite ta-ta”. Ta-Ta is jibberish for Carter. So at least he is getting the idea–no more biting! 🙂
