Come and knock on our door

The excitement at the VandeVenter household has lessened somewhat over the last several days. It’s been just the three of us since Sunday, and we’ve been taking some time to just decompress. In one of my relaxed moments, I made the mistake of discovering Pocket Frogs on my iPad. So, let me take this opportunity to apologize to any of my friends who play Farmville. I’m sorry I made fun of you. Not really. Breeding fake frogs is way better than fake farming.

It’s been over a month since Shannon’s surgery, and we had family and friends helping out throughout. My mother was the biggest help of all, helping hold down the fort at home and getting Shannon to her numerous appointments. My dad would come up most weekends while she was here. Shannon’s dads have also made the trips. Most recently her dad from Minneapolis was here helping this last week. And we’ve had a friend stay as well to help out wiht Carter in the evenings and early mornings. After our trips to the ER last week, it was just comforting to know that if I had to run her to the hospital in the middle of the night, someone would be there with Carter.

Shannon is finally feeling “semi-human” the last few days. We even had a family shopping outing Sunday night. Shannon’s also been able to get a few hours of work in this week (from home). She has a few appointments this week prior to chemo on Thursday, and seems to be well enough to get around herself. We’re hoping this next chemo treatment will be better than the first. As much as the doctors know about chemotherapy and its effect on the body, it is still trail. and error. You never know how one person will react until you give it. But unlike the first time, Shannon knows now if she feels bad for a day or two after the treatment that it won’t be forever.

Minnesota Grandma and Grandpda will be coming in tomorrow to be here for this next round. As much as we’ve enjoyed our time as a family, it will be nice to have the company (and help) again.

P.S. If anyone is in Bismarck this Sunday, October 10, please come to the YMCA for the Zumbathon! Party in Pink Fundraiser to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. I understand it involves a lot of people doing this.

P.P.S. The judges have just informed me that its “Zumba,” not “Numa.” Sorry for the confusion.

  1. Hi Shannon, Chris & Carter.

Glad to hear that things are going better and you feel human again. I will be back in RC on Sunday and will give you a call and find out what is next on the agenda. Love you all! Brenda
