Vacation

Mom and Dad got a break this last weekend. Carter went on a mini vacation. It’s the first time in nearly two years that Shannon and I have had a weekend (or any end) to ourselves. Just the two of us.

Grandma and Grandpa in Rapid City took Carter for the weekend so he could play with his cousins. They drove up from Colorado. He hasn’t seem them since Christmas. Carter took his first trip to Evan’s Plunge to go swimming, and got to play with his aunt and uncle’s puppies. He looks so much more grown up since he came back. He apparently likes to speak in full sentences now, and enjoys ripe, black olives. I’ll forgive him that one indiscretion (the olives, not the sentences).

We video chatted through Skype with him every night while he was gone. He kept pointing to Grandpa’s computer saying “Mommy, Daddy.” When Grandma pulled into the driveway last night, he was all smiles and giggles, wanting to show us every toy he brought with him and generally just brighten our day.

We missed him terribly, but Mom and Dad are going to have to do this “alone” thing more often.

  1. So glad you were able to take this time alone together. Jer and I have learned we need those times too. Good time to reconnect and remember the love that brought you together.
